That accommodation on the roof was pretty amazing! and I thought I could 'rough it' .We have just returned from our Bay of Islands visit - plenty of swimming and kayaking ! and no wild beasts.

Great post, Emma. Will be travelling with your mother to Waikeremoana where the road in and out sounds very similar to Ghana. Love the photos and fascinating about all the kids. What's the English like?

"Anyway, dinner out was nice, had some chicken kebabs, which were really good as they were all actually made out of chicken and not just deep fried skin and bone like some of the 'chicken' you can get here."

LOL

The English is generally really good, in the city they all speak it, although sometimes I have issues understanding accent and slang, and then when we went up north, the kids were all very good at English, they get taught in English at school I think. One kid who I was talking to though, maybe he was 7 or 8, not only spoke English but could hold a conversation in French, German and Dutch, and say greetings in about 10 other languages because of all the tourists who come through his town!

Wow - that is actually quite humbling
