Busua Beach

Hello all, Happy Auckland Anniversary Day and Australia Day dependant on where you're reading this from!

Had a good weekend as we went out of Accra and travelled along the west coast to a place called Busua beach. Left very early on Saturday morning, like 5am I had to wake up!!!! But it was still very easy to catch our tro tro from the market at that time, it was a hive of activity pretty much.

So leaving early was the plan to avoid traffic and it worked well as we made the trip easily in just under 4 hours, which was good considering we'd had ranges of up to 8! So arrived and left our bags in our rooms and straight to the beach. Unfortunately the Harmattan(like winds from the desert or something) was in force and while its not windy at all, its cold(relatively speaking)and you pretty much can't see the sky, its looks kinda hazy.

But the water more than made up for it, as it was beautiful and clear, and while the waves weren't quite big enough to try some surfing, there is always next time......

The food there was also very good, with the surf shop having a kitchen which tried to cater to multi-cultural food tastes as much as is possible with the ingredients available in Ghana, my macaroni and cheese was not quite as you would expect but was very very nice anyway, and lots of other food which was a welcome change from rice.

The place was also nice as it wasn't too full of people, there were of course the tourists around, of course some of them were Dutch as they seem to be everywhere!! But we had Dutch people with us so they picked up on the language being spoken. One of the guys had been in NZ though for the 2000 Americas Cup and they had some Fat Freddy's Drop on their iPod so it was nice to relax back on the beach listening to some good NZ music.

The next day was nice, much warmer and sunnier, and still the general theme of eating, swimming and lying and the beach was the theme of the day. There is an island out in the water which you can catch a fishing boat out to see but we didn't seem to get around to that so may have to wait until next time. Headed back about 2pm, again wasn't sure what traffic situation would be like....but we had the same driver from the day before be nice enough to come back and pick us straight up from the door so no waiting around.

So a good weekend, and very nice to get out of the city. No time now to put up photos so I will try for tomorrow.......

Happy New Year! .......and where I live

I hadn't actually realised I haven't written anything since last year now!! So Iwill try make up for it, there has not been that much happening really, but I have finally taken photos of where I live so you can get an idea.....

Since uploading photos here takes awhile, I'll only put some up and rest can go at the place where the rest of the photos are.

So pretty much I live in a room in a sectioned off by a hedge and fence, area next to the building I work in, and its all in a enclosed property, they have people who sleep by the gate so if we come in late at night need to get them to open the gate for us.

So the photo outisde the place with the sign shows the view from the road, then inside, the garden/lawn part opposite the work building, and our block of rooms, in the photo the door to the bathroom doesn't show, its on the left, my room is the third from the left, the other guys live in the first two rooms, and the kitchen is the room right at the end.

The map shows where we are in Accra, road signage here is not by any means amazing so its hard to narrow down exactly where I am, but the section enclosed by pink coloured roads to the left of the water part, is where I live, in the top left hand corner, the most of that section is a hospital, so whenever I tell someone I live in Korle Bu their first guess is to think I'm a doctor!
